Memberships: Member of British Cardiac Society
Membership of British Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (President)
Society Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT)

Special Interests:
Preventive Cardiology, Risk re-classification, Vulnerable Plaque Identification (CT/IVUS/OCT), Heart attack avoidance, Dietary strategies to control HbA1c, Blood Lipids and cardiac risk, Obesity, weight loss and metabolic syndrome

Dr Scott Murray is an experienced Consultant Cardiologist based in Liverpool, UK. Following his graduation from Glasgow University with a First Class Honours BSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine (1999), his initial research work was presented at the American Heart Association and involved BNP and ACE genotype work in Athletic LVH and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Upon completion of his medical degree in 2001 he relocated to Liverpool and begun training in General Medicine and Cardiology, specialising in Interventional Cardiology, in particular intravascular imaging (IVUS) in stable and unstable coronary artery disease. During this time he undertook periods of research at The Thoraxcentre in Rotterdam and in Virginia, USA focusing on using intravascular ultrasound and Cardiac CT to diagnose ‘vulnerable plaques’ in patients. His research led to numerous publications, awards and also the post-graduate MD degree from The University of Liverpool.

Scott now has a specialist interest in Preventative Cardiology after spending 10 years + focused on the vulnerable coronary plaque. He now prefers to solely deal with the “vulnerable patient” and believes in attenuating individual risks. He has given a recent keynote lecture at the Royal College of General Practitioners in London available to view here:

Scott works at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in General Cardiology and is highly proficient in all aspects of this. He has several leadership roles locally in the sustainability and transformation plans (Demand and Prevention Lead) and he is the current President of the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR)

Scott prides himself on his “down to earth” rapport with patients, his ability to explain complex concepts in basic language and he tries hard to treat every patient like family. He is married (to another Doctor!) with three young boys and lives in West Kirby, Wirral. He doesn’t get to golf as much as he would like these days!

Dr Jonathan Hasleton

Consultant Cardiologist
Qualifications: BSc (Hons), MB ChB, MRCP(UK), MD (Res)
Special Interests: Cardiovascular risk assessment. Coronary angiography and angioplasty/stenting. Preventive cardiology. Cardiac rehabilitation. Cardio-oncology. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging.

Dr Hasleton studied Medicine at the University of Manchester before training in Cardiology in Liverpool. He also worked at Hope Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital and completed a Masters degree in Cardiovascular Science at the University College London’s (UCL) Hatter Cardiovascular Institute.

He completed his training at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital developing sub-specialty interests in coronary intervention and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

He looks after patients with all aspects of general cardiology problems with a specialist interest in diagnosing, treating and mitigating the risk of coronary artery disease.

With his interest in cardiovascular MRI he is able to provide a specialist opinion on patients with more unusual cardiac conditions.

Dr Hasleton provides outpatient consultations with access to a wide range of non-invasive cardiac testing including cardiovascular computed tomography (CT) and MRI. He also provides catheter lab services such as coronary angiography, and is an expert in percutaneous coronary intervention (the implantation of stents in the heart’s arteries).

He is a consultant cardiologist holding posts at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital and the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

At the Royal Liverpool University Hospital he works in general cardiology providing opinions and treatment to patients across the breadth of medical and surgical specialities.

At the Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital (LHCH) he works in interventional cardiology treating both elective and emergency cardiac cases. LHCH is the 2nd largest angioplasty centre in the UK in terms of volumes of cases, and the UK number 1 in terms of the cases done per consultant operator.
